European Day of Languages CelebrationsWritten by Kerrianne Power & Hazel Toman, TY Class Hume.
As part of their European Studies module, it has become a tradition for the TY classes to help promote language learning in the school through the celebration of the European Day of Languages, which is held on September 26th.
The TY class Hume was given the task of organising a table quiz for the 1st year students to celebrate the European Day of Language. Each TY member was involved and given a specific role to make this event possible.
As they were given the role of Project Co-ordinators, Kerrianne Power and Hazel Toman asked Mr. Collins for permission to organise this event.
After he agreed, jobs were given to the other students such as the MC, Jack Musgrave, who read out the questions at the quiz.
Other jobs given to the students included set up, correctors, question makers, which were divided into categories, teams were set up and posters were made to promote the quiz.
Once all the equipment was set up that morning, the 1st years were divided into their teams which represented a country such as Spain, Germany and France.
Prizes were given to the first, second and third winning teams. We are very thankful for the prizes given to us by our sponsors - Leargas, the Post Primary Languages Initiative, the Spanish Embassy, SAP Ireland and the European Commission Offices in Dublin.
Prizes were also given to the winners of the Art Competition, also on the theme of the European Day of Languages, which was organised by the TY Class McBride.
All the first years and the TYs enjoyed this experience and had a great morning.
