Here at St Farnan's we offer a wide variety of science subjects to all of our students.
Junior Certificate science has undergone major changes over the last three years with the introduction of the new Junior Certificate course in science. All students participate in science classes throughout their Junior Certificate years. Students actively participate in problem solving activities, group work, and experiments throughout these 3 years.

Chemistry
Chemistry is one of four science based subjects that we offer to leaving certificate level. Many areas are covered in this course including but not limited to organic chemistry, the periodic table, radioactivity, equilibrium and bonding. Others include the chemistry options sections which deal with industrial chemistry and the atmosphere. There are a host of experiments covered as part of these chapters.
The aim of this subject is to give students an excellent grounding in order to prepare students for the terminal exam in June of sixth year. Students will sit an exam worth 400 marks. The exam is divided into two sections. Sectaion A consists of questions on 3 experiments based on the mandatory experiments from the course and section B consists of 8 questions from theory. Students must answer a total of 8 questions, each one worth 50 marks.

5th Year Biology
Students teaching students about the 5 Kingdoms of Life.
Each group member researched the main characteristics of a Kingdom and then taught the other members of the group about their Kingdom.
