Mike Hughes confirmed for St Farnan's staff Teaching, Learning & Innovation sessions
We are delighted to announce that our Teaching and Learning Coordinator, Michelle Dowling, has magically organised the world renowned educationist, Mike Hughes, of The Magenta Principles fame, to facilitate school workshops with staff next term. This is a huge coup as Mike is semi-retired and rarely works with schools in the Republic since Covid. We have him pencilled in for a whole staff on-line session in September and then with some smaller teacher groups over another number of shorter sessions over the next number of months before and after Christmas.
“In a nutshell, the Magenta Principles™ is an umbrella phrase that refers to a philosophy and an approach to teaching based upon the premise that learning should be both exciting and engaging. More specifically the phrase represents a pedagogy underpinned by an unshakeable belief that:
- learning is the consequence of thinking… therefore our job is to get them to think
- language is central to thinking… therefore our job is to get them to talk
- learning is an active process… therefore our job is to get them doing.
