Notice for students & parents/guardians regarding the reopening of schools

5th Jan 2022

St. Farnan's Post Primary School will re-open on Thursday, 6th January 2022 from 9.00am for all year groups apart from Transition Years, who will return on Friday, 7th January.

Some classes may be amalgamated due to staff shortages over the next number of days. Students should bring their main textbooks for their daily subjects, a reading book & exam papers for 3rd & 6th years. Work may be also assigned on Google Classroom if a teacher is absent and should be completed to the best of each student's ability.

We urge all our students to work closely with us during this difficult time and thank them in advance for their observation of all school rules and regulations and infection preventative measures in place.

As usual, parents/guardians of students who are absent should email info@stfarnans.ie to explain their child's absence or phone Jenna or Maria in the Front Office on 045868152 or leave a message on the answerphone.

Other News:

Our roll-out of lockers will continue. All 1st years have now been assigned lockers. Senior year students will be getting their lockers shortly, followed by 2nd and 3rd years.

Our school is spotless and Room 7, our Music Room, is back in action after tremendous work over the holiday period by our caretaking team of Fionnuala, Jim and Joe.

Spar Prosperous will begin to initiate an on-line ordering of lunches within the next few weeks. Lunches ordered on-line can then be collected in the Canteen ... more to follow.

Due to the difficult current situation, extra-curricular activities will be curtailed in the short term apart from TY activities.

HSE Public Health Measures in St. Farnan's PPS - January 2022

Any students/staff displaying any Covid-19 related symptoms should not attend St. Farnan's PPS and should follow the current HSE advice.

In the best interest and Health & Safety of all school members and their families, proper medical grade masks MUST be worn at all times when indoors in our school. When on lunch, a distance of 2 metres MUST be observed if eating/drinking from one person to the next.

The Acting HSE National Clinical Director of Health Protection issued the following Return to School guidance today:

  1. Parents & Guardians - please make sure that your sons/daughters feel well enough to attend school and DO NOT have any Covid 19 symptoms.
  2. Please take a precautionary approach, that if a child appears unwell, observe them at home and contact their GP as appropriate.
  3. Currently, children under 13 years who are household close contacts must restrict their movements for 14 days and they are offered PCR testing at day 0 and day 10. On receipt of a day 10 not-detected PCR test result, they may exit restricted movements.
  4. It is important that anyone who has been identified as a close contact, is very aware of COVID-19 symptoms, and isolate and undergo testing should they develop any symptoms.
  5. Please abide by the national public health measures currently in place at all times e.g. social distancing in schools especially at Break and Lunchtimes, correct use of face masks, constant hand hygiene and minimising social contacts.

Thank you for your ongoing support,

Andrew Purcell Principal, John Cleary Deputy Principal & the staff of St. Farnan's Post Primary School.
