School Uniform Check December 2024
Congratulations to the students in St Farnan's on their huge compliance with our school uniform procedures.
This morning, we had a school uniform check with the help of Tutors and Year Heads. The vast majority of students were wearing their full uniform with pride and it is fantastic to see a cohort of great young people working together with staff as a community. We also acknowledge our parents/guardians in this respect.
There was less than 1% of students who had a number of minor uniform issues but we also acknowledge that many families have been without electricity for some time since Storm Darragh last weekend.
I spoke to all students regarding the rational for a school uniform and why it is important including:
- School Uniforms promote equality and reduce the visible differences in a family’s socio-economic status among students.
- Creates a sense of belonging and pride in the school and encourages a mind-set of focus on learning and responsibility
- Enhances Safety and improves School Identity - Makes it easier to identify students and non-students in our grounds and in the building and helps keep students safer on field trips as they’re easily recognisable.
- Cost-Effective - While expensive, school uniforms and PE uniforms are often cheaper than purchasing a variety of casual clothes over time and deciding on what to wear 5 days a week while in school and simplifies morning routines for students and parents
- Encourages Positive Behaviour – it creates a more serious academic environment and reduces bullying related to clothing choices, fostering a more inclusive atmosphere.
Thank you,
Andrew Purcell Principal
