Today we kicked off our Science Week with a Science quiz with our 115 1st year students. The competitive spirits of all 25 teams shone through brightly in the eagerly contested competition.
The students were met with 65 challenging questions from all four strands of the Junior Cycle curriculum. With only 10 questions left, there were four teams out ahead in a clear battle to win the bragging rights of quiz champions. Team Phosphorous, team Vanadium, team Chromium and team Sulphur fought tooth and nail until the final couple of questions separated them. In the end team Phosphorous, with Shane Kavanagh, Rory Keane, Rian Kelly, Alannah Kennedy and Sean Kennedy Walsh reigned supreme, showing a sensational level of knowledge between them. Second place went to team Chromium, with Ella Grace Scott, Ciara Sheridan, Arabella Smal, Jacob Small and Macaela Smullen. A valiant effort from team Sulphur saw them take 3rd place, with Conor Kilduff, Aidan Kowalski, Darrell Leeson, Conor Mahoney and Alica Billa.
Although these three teams placed on the day it must be said that all of our wonderful 1st years acquitted themselves well for the afternoon and they were an absolute pleasure to work with. A huge thank you must also go out to our wonderful TY students who worked diligently to set up the Canteen before the first years arrived. They also led the 25 quiz teams and helped out wherever they were needed. Well done to you all!
