Welcome to the Student Options page for St. Farnan's Post Primary School. On this page you will find details of the selection process for your Son/ Daughter(s) option subjects for both Junior Cycle and Senior Cycle in St. Farnan's. Andrew Little is the school's Student Option and Timetable Coordinator. Junior Cycle:
In St. Farnan's Post Primary School we offer a broad range of option subjects to suit all types of learners. Students select their option subjects prior to starting in September of First Year. The process of selecting option subjects commences in the March/ April prior to starting First Year. Students are required to select three option subjects from two bands. Students will study the selected subjects for the three year Junior Cycle course and will be assessed in these areas for the Junior Cycle Profile of Achievement (JCPA).
Band A: Modern Foreign Language (MFL) band: We recommend that students study a MFL for Junior cycle. In this band we currently offer; French, Italian and Spanish. For a class to run we need an appropriate number of students selecting that language. **Please note Italian will be a new offering for 2022-2023 and is subject to appropriate student numbers**. There are also two non language subjects offered in this band for students who do not wish to study a MFL. One subject from Band A will feature on a students timetable.
Band B: Band B is made up of all other option subjects. Students will study two subjects from Band B. Only subjects that have appropriate student numbers will run in a given cycle.
Option Subject Selection Process:
The Option Subject selection process has a number of steps:
- February 2022: Parents/ Guardians receive by post a Junior Cycle Handbook detailing information on each of the option subjects offered in St. Farnan's. In addition, enclosed will be an Expression of Interest in studying form. Here, parents/ guardians and their son/ daughter will complete a ranking of subjects they would be interested in studying (1- most interested etc.).
- 4th March 2022: Deadline for return of the expression of interest form for the attention of Mr. Little to the school office by hand or by post.
- 15th March 2022: Online Information Night for Incoming First Years. Along with more information pertaining to life in St. Farnan's, parents/ guardians will receive an information session on how to use our online platform VsWare for making their son/ daughters final option selection. Log in details for VsWare will be sent by text message to parents/ guardians in the days leading up to/ after 15th of March.
- 1st April 2022: Access to VsWare for final selection of option subjects closes.
- May 2022: Parents/ guardians will receive notification from Mr. Little on the option subjects assigned to their son/ daughter. Any issues with the option subjects assigned must be notified in writing to the school office for the attention of Mr. Little.

Senior Cycle:
A Senior Cycle Options evening will take place online on Thursday 24th of March at 7.30pm. On the night, our school staff will provide details of the programmes of study available to students at Senior Cycle. Reminder that in St. Farnan's PPS we offer Transition Year, Established Leaving Certificate, Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme (LCVP) and Leaving Certificate Applied (LCA).

We hope to continue expanding the senior cycle curriculum over the coming academic years. We recommend that students discuss option subjects with their teachers to get guidance and advice around Senior Cycle Option Subjects.
